ABOUT

The seeding local cultures conference, is an invitation to join the SCOPE community of practice, re-imagine education with the earth, learn from the planetary cycles, Indigenous knowledge systems, good food, and relationships, grounded in the African ubuntu spirit as we navigate the 21st-century challenges of climate change and other shocks. The seeding local cultures initiative is a platform that brings together young children, youth, community elders, educators, researchers and academics to explore all the possibilities of a better planet, a future where young people and old come together to proffer solutions for the 21st-century challenges and beyond.

VENUE
EcoVillage@Chitubu

Ecovillage @ Chitubu is an off-grid regenerative hub where sustainability truly comes alive. Established in 2018 as an offshoot of the Zimbabwe Institute of Permaculture – SCOPE Zimbabwe, Chitubu is more than a venue; it is a living classroom, a sanctuary, and a vision of harmonious living with nature. Ideal for weekend getaways, conferences, and team-building retreats, Chitubu offers a refreshing escape, a place to recharge, reconnect, and reimagine what sustainable living looks like. The name Chitubu in Shona and Exaphozini in Ndebele, meaning “spring,” reflects its role as a wellspring of knowledge and inspiration. Here, daily life becomes an experiment in ecological balance, from how we build and grow food to how we cook, eat, and share community life. The architecture, inspired by traditional roundavel designs, is creatively crafted from earth, grass, old tyres, and earthbags. Each structure is thoughtfully designed to showcase regenerative solutions that cut greenhouse gas emissions while conserving water and energy. At Chitubu, you don’t just visit, you experience a different way of living.
